Gearing up for the season!

It was a long winter and we are all anxious for the longer, warmer, whale-filled days here at Sea of Whales. We are gearing up for the season and for all of you to visit.

At the moment, there is maintenance being done on the booking office. There is currently some work being done on the deck where everyone gets into their survival suits. We’ve been painting 230 fence palings for a replacement of part of the picket fence that surrounds the property. There has been some maintenance done on the wharf in Princeton in the last week.

In Trinity, our floating docks will need to be put back into the water. We have floating docks to avoid ice damage, so these are usually not put into the water until the risk for pack ice damage has passed — One year this was on July 4th!

The Zodiacs are in inside storage for the winter to keep them out of the ice and snow. When we pick them up, they are very dusty from being in storage and need a good thorough cleaning. The safety equipment will be closely examined and be reloaded onto the boats. We will complete an inspection of each vessel and submit to Transport Canada. Survival suits are all cleaned, dried and put away for the season each fall. In the spring, we re-examine all of those and make any necessary repairs before the season begins.

Our local signs are all taken down in the winter to keep them safe from weathering and strong winter winds. We will soon re-install all of those, as well as the chalk boards that display our daily sightings at the booking office.

The shop gets completely packed up for the winter. It will get a deep cleaning and then apparel and merchandise will be loaded back onto the shelves. We have ordered some great news designs for this season as well and they are set to arrive by the time we open in mid May.

There is so much to do to get ready for the season but we truly enjoy every part of it! Can’t wait to welcome you soon for another year of Sea of Whales Adventures! Book a tour today!
