A Wonderful Day

What a wonderful day on the water today! Had 1 humpback whale, 30-40 white sided dolphins, 1 leatherback sea turtle, 1 blue fin tuna, bald eagles, puffins, gannets, murres, arctic terns, sooty shearwaters and ruddy turnstones. The humpback was tail lobbing, spy hopping and kelping while two others swam off in the distance. Kelping is a behaviour where a humpback seems to play with a piece of seaweed (kelp). Seeing a leatherback sea turtle is always a thrill, this big one had a school of interesting stripey fish following it around, really neat! These turtles are highly endangered. We shut off the motors and waited and this one swam right under the boat!
